Zimmerman Telegram

The Zimmermann Telegram was a secret message sent in January 1917 by Germany to Mexico during World War I. Germany sought to persuade Mexico to join the war against the United States by promising to help Mexico regain territories lost in previous conflicts, like Texas. British intelligence intercepted and decrypted the message, revealing Germany's intentions. When the telegram became public, it inflamed American opinion against Germany, contributing to the U.S. decision to enter the war on the side of the Allies. This event significantly changed the course of the conflict and the global balance of power.
