The Zengid dynasty was a Muslim ruling family of Turkmen origin that controlled parts of the Middle East, mainly in northern Syria and Iraq, during the 12th and early 13th centuries. Founded by Imad ad-Din Zengi, they played a key role in the Crusades, uniting Muslim territories to resist European invasions. Their leadership helped reclaim Jerusalem and surrounding areas, strengthening Muslim resistance.
