zanamivir

Zanamivir is an antiviral medication used to treat and prevent influenza (the flu). It works by blocking an enzyme called neuraminidase, which the flu virus needs to spread from infected cells to new ones. By inhibiting this enzyme, zanamivir helps stop the virus from multiplying and reduces the severity and duration of flu symptoms. It is typically inhaled as a powder using a device called a Diskhaler. Zanamivir is most effective when taken early in the course of illness, usually within 48 hours of symptom onset.
