Zamindari Abolition Act
The Zamindari Abolition Act was a law enacted to eliminate the zamindari system, a landholding structure where zamindars (landlords) owned large areas of land and collected taxes from tenant farmers. The act aimed to transfer land ownership directly to the farmers or the state, reducing zamindars' control. This process sought to promote equitable land distribution, improve agricultural productivity, and ensure farmers benefit more directly from their work. Implemented mainly after India’s independence, it was a significant step toward land reform and social justice.
