Yakubu Gowon

Yakubu Gowon is a Nigerian military leader and politician who served as Nigeria’s Head of State from 1966 to 1975, after coming to power through a military coup. His leadership was marked by efforts to keep Nigeria united during the Nigerian Civil War (1967–1970), also known as the Biafran War. Gowon focused on national reunification, economic growth, and stability. Despite being a military officer, his government laid foundations for Nigeria’s future development. He is remembered for his role in maintaining Nigeria’s sovereignty during a turbulent period in its history.
