Yaa Asantewaa

Yaa Asantewaa was a Ghanaian queen and warrior who led a fierce resistance against British colonization in the early 20th century. As the Queen Mother of Ejisu, she galvanized the Ashanti people to fight when the British tried to impose new laws and control their gold-rich territory. Her leadership during the Ashanti-British War (1900) made her a symbol of resistance and national pride. Despite eventually being captured and imprisoned, her courage and fight for her people's independence have made her a celebrated hero in Ghanaian history.
