Xerophthalmic keratitis
Xerophthalmic keratitis is a condition characterized by dryness and inflammation of the cornea, the clear front surface of the eye. It results from insufficient tear production or poor tear quality, causing the eye to lack proper lubrication. This dryness can lead to discomfort, redness, blurred vision, and in severe cases, corneal damage or ulcers. It is often associated with conditions like dry eye syndrome or vitamin A deficiency. Effective treatment typically involves artificial tears, addressing the underlying cause, and in some cases, medications to stimulate tear production or protect the cornea.
