William Miller (Baptist preacher)
William Miller was a 19th-century American Baptist preacher known for predicting the Second Coming of Christ around 1844. He studied biblical prophecies, especially from the Book of Daniel, and calculated that Jesus would return on October 22, 1844. His teachings attracted many followers, leading to what became known as the Millerite movement. When the predicted event did not occur, it caused disappointment and the event is called the "Great Disappointment." Despite this, Miller's interpretations influenced the development of Adventist beliefs, notably contributing to the founding of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
