William II of Sicily

William II of Sicily (1155–1189) was the Norman King of Sicily, known for his reign during a period of political stability and cultural development. He inherited a diverse and prosperous kingdom that included Italy and the Mediterranean. William II was involved in regional conflicts but maintained relative peace, emphasizing justice and supporting arts and learning. His reign was marked by efforts to strengthen his realm and prevalent courtly culture. He died young under uncertain circumstances, leading to the succession of his cousin, which eventually contributed to the decline of Norman influence in southern Italy.
