Wheal Busy

Wheal Busy, also known as Calabar swellings, are temporary, localized swellings on the skin typically caused by allergic reactions or insect bites, especially from tsetse flies in West Africa. They appear as itchy, raised, red or skin-colored lumps, often lasting from a few hours to several days. These swellings result from the body's immune response to certain proteins introduced during the bite, leading to swelling and sometimes inflammation. Wheal Busy is a characteristic feature in some parasitic infections like Loa loa or certain allergic conditions, serving as a clinic indicator for diagnosis and management.
