Western Equine Encephalitis

Western Equine Encephalitis (WEE) is a rare viral infection transmitted primarily through mosquito bites. The virus originates in birds and is spread by mosquitoes that feed on both birds and mammals, including humans. Infected individuals may experience flu-like symptoms such as fever, headache, and fatigue, but in some cases, it can cause more serious brain inflammation, leading to seizures, confusion, or neurological damage. While WEE is uncommon today, it highlights the importance of mosquito control and personal protection against bites, especially in areas where the virus is present. Most cases tend to be mild, with severe complications being rare.
