Weighing of the Heart
The "Weighing of the Heart" is an ancient Egyptian belief described in the Book of the Dead, where the heart of the deceased is measured against the feather of Ma'at, symbolizing truth and justice. If the heart is light enough—meaning the person led a truthful and balanced life—it is considered pure and the soul can continue to the afterlife. If it’s heavy with wrongdoings, it is devoured by a fearsome creature called Ammit, and the individual’s soul is rejected, preventing eternal life. This process underscores the importance of moral integrity in ancient Egyptian spirituality.
