Warkari Sect

The Warkari Sect is a devotional movement from Maharashtra, India, emphasizing devotion to Lord Vithoba (a form of Krishna). Followers, called Warkaris, undertake annual pilgrimages on foot to the Vithoba temple in Pandharpur, expressing their faith through singing, dancing, and prayer. Rooted in Bhakti (devotional) traditions, the sect promotes equality, social harmony, and spiritual discipline. Their practices include communal singing of devotional hymns (abhangas) and living according to principles of humility and service. The Warkari movement has significantly influenced Marathi culture, philosophy, and religious life, fostering a strong sense of community among its adherents.
