Waggle Dance
The waggle dance is a form of communication used by honeybees to share information about the location of food sources. When a forager finds nectar or pollen, it returns to the hive and performs this dance on the honeycomb. The dance involves a figure-eight movement with a central straight run; the angle of this run relative to gravity indicates the direction of the food source relative to the sun. The duration and vigor of the waggle part convey information about the distance. This sophisticated behavior helps the hive efficiently coordinate to collect resources.
