Vocal Cord Dysfunction
Vocal cord dysfunction (VCD) is a condition where the vocal cords, located in the throat, do not open correctly during breathing. Instead of relaxing when inhaling, they may close partially, leading to difficulty breathing, wheezing, or a feeling of tightness in the throat. VCD can be triggered by various factors, including stress, allergens, or exercise. Unlike asthma, VCD does not involve inflammation of the airways. Treatment often includes breathing techniques, speech therapy, and addressing triggers. Understanding and managing VCD can significantly improve quality of life for those affected.
