VLAN

A Virtual Local Area Network (VLAN) is a technology that allows different groups of devices on a network to communicate as if they are on the same physical network, even if they are not. This helps to improve security and efficiency by segmenting traffic. For example, in an office, the finance department can have its own VLAN, ensuring sensitive information is kept separate from other departments like marketing. VLANs make network management easier by allowing changes without needing to physically rearrange devices, enhancing performance and simplifying administration.
