Vkhutemas
Vkhutemas (short for Russian Higher Art and Technical Studios) was a prominent art and design school in Moscow, founded in 1920 after the Russian Revolution. It aimed to merge artistic creativity with technical skills, emphasizing modernism, innovation, and experimentation across disciplines like architecture, graphic design, and fine arts. Influenced by European avant-garde movements, Vkhutemas sought to redefine artistic practice within the context of social change, encouraging students to apply their skills towards building a new, revolutionary society. It played a crucial role in early Soviet art education and fostered influential artists and designers until its closure in 1930.
