Vitreous body

The vitreous body is a gel-like substance that fills the space between the lens and the retina in the eye. It is composed mainly of water, collagen fibers, and proteins, providing structure and maintaining the eye's shape. This clear, jelly-like material also helps transmit light to the retina for clear vision. The vitreous body is essential for proper eye function, supporting the retina and acting as a shock absorber. As we age, it can change, sometimes leading to visual disturbances like floaters, but it generally remains stable throughout life.
