Vitiligo
Vitiligo is a skin condition characterized by the loss of pigment, resulting in white patches on the skin. It occurs when the immune system mistakenly attacks and destroys the pigment-producing cells called melanocytes. This autoimmune response can be triggered by various factors, including genetics, stress, or sunlight exposure. Vitiligo is not contagious and affects people of all skin tones. While the exact cause is not fully understood, treatments aim to restore skin color or even out skin tone but may not be effective for everyone. Psychosocial support is often important for those affected by its visible impact.
