Visual Flight Rules (VFR)

Visual Flight Rules (VFR) are the set of regulations that pilots follow to operate aircraft when weather conditions allow for clear visibility and sufficient natural light. Under VFR, pilots navigate primarily by visual cues such as landmarks, other aircraft, and the horizon, rather than relying on instruments. This allows for more flexible flying in good weather, with fewer restrictions. However, pilots must ensure weather conditions stay within certain limits—like good visibility and cloud clearance—to safely maintain visual navigation. If weather deteriorates, pilots must switch to Instrument Flight Rules (IFR) or delay the flight.
