Vikramshila University

Vikramshila University, founded in the 8th century, was one of India's two great ancient universities, alongside Nalanda. Located in present-day Bihar, it flourished as an important center for Buddhist learning and culture. The university attracted scholars from across Asia, teaching various subjects, including philosophy, medicine, and Mahayana Buddhism. It played a crucial role in the spread of Buddhist teachings and was known for its rigorous academic environment. Vikramshila declined in the 12th century due to invasions and changes in religious dynamics but remains a significant symbol of India's historical contribution to education and scholarship.
