Vikramashila University
Vikramashila University was an ancient Indian center of learning established around the 8th or 9th century CE, during the Pala Empire. It was one of the most important Buddhist universities in India, attracting students and scholars from across Asia. Located in present-day Bihar, it specialized in Buddhist philosophy, arts, and sciences, functioning as a hub for religious and academic study. Its reputation rivaled that of Nalanda University. Vikramashila played a key role in promoting Buddhist teachings and intellectual exchange before declining in the 12th century, leaving a lasting legacy in the history of education and Buddhism.
