Video cassette

A video cassette is a tape-based device used to record and playback television programs, movies, or personal videos. It consists of a plastic cassette housing with a magnetic tape inside, which stores electronic signals when recording. When played, the tape moves past a read head that converts the magnetic information into audio and video signals for viewing on a VCR (Video Cassette Recorder). This technology was popular from the 1970s to the early 2000s before digital media became dominant. Video cassettes are durable, portable, and allowed users to watch, record, and re-watch content at their convenience.
