Victor Turner's Liminality

Victor Turner’s concept of liminality refers to a transitional phase in rituals or life experiences where individuals find themselves between two states of being. During this "in-between" period, participants often experience a sense of ambiguity and disorientation but also potential for transformation and new understanding. Liminality occurs when traditional norms and identities are suspended, allowing creativity and personal growth. It’s often seen in rites of passage, such as graduating or getting married, where individuals are no longer in their old roles but have not yet fully embraced their new ones.
