vestibular compensation
Vestibular compensation is the brain's ability to adjust and adapt to changes or damage in the inner ear structures responsible for balance. When these structures are affected, such as after an injury or infection, the brain can sometimes "compensate" by recalibrating its balance systems. This means that it learns to rely more on other senses, like vision and proprioception (awareness of body position), to restore balance and coordination. As a result, individuals may experience a gradual reduction in symptoms like dizziness and instability, enabling them to regain functional balance over time.
