Venus flytrap

The Venus flytrap is a small, carnivorous plant native to southeastern U.S. wetlands. It has hinged leaves ending in trap-like structures with hair-like sensors on the inner surfaces. When prey, usually insects or spiders, touch these hairs twice within about 20 seconds, the trap quickly snaps shut, trapping the prey inside. The plant then secretes digestive enzymes to break down the prey and absorb nutrients, which supplement its growth in nutrient-poor soils. This mechanism allows the Venus flytrap to thrive in challenging environments where typical plants might struggle.
