ventricular assist devices (VADs)

Ventricular assist devices (VADs) are mechanical pumps designed to support the heart’s ability to circulate blood. They are typically used in patients with severe heart failure, either as a bridge to transplantation or as a long-term treatment. The device is implanted inside the chest, connected to the heart and a control system outside the body. VADs help the weakened heart pump blood more effectively, reducing symptoms and improving quality of life. They are highly advanced, precision-engineered devices that can sustain circulation when the heart can no longer do so adequately.
