Veno-venous ECMO

Veno-venous ECMO is a medical procedure that helps oxygenate a patient's blood when their lungs are severely unable to do so. Blood is drawn from a large vein, passed through a machine that adds oxygen and removes carbon dioxide, and then returned to the body via another vein. This process allows the lungs to rest and heal while ensuring the body's organs receive enough oxygen. Veno-venous ECMO does not provide the heart with support; it purely assists with lung function, making it essential for patients with severe respiratory failure.
