Vector ecology is the study of organisms called vectors, like mosquitoes or ticks, that transmit diseases from one host to another. It examines how these vectors live, breed, and interact with their environment, and how factors like climate, habitat, and human activity influence their populations. Understanding vector ecology helps us identify when and where disease transmission is likely to occur, guiding efforts to prevent and control illnesses such as malaria, Lyme disease, or dengue. Essentially, it’s about understanding the ecological relationships that enable disease spread, so we can develop better strategies to reduce its impact on human health.
