VATS (video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery)
Video-assisted thoracoscopic surgery (VATS) is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose or treat chest conditions. It involves making small incisions in the chest through which a tiny camera (thoracoscope) and surgical instruments are inserted. The camera sends images to a monitor, allowing the surgeon to see inside the chest without large open wounds. VATS typically results in less pain, shorter hospital stays, and quicker recovery compared to traditional surgery. It is commonly used for lung biopsies, removing nodules or parts of the lung, and treating certain thoracic conditions.
