Varices
Varices are enlarged, swollen veins that develop when normal blood flow is obstructed or increased pressure builds up in the veins, often in the esophagus or stomach. This increased pressure causes the veins to dilate and become fragile, which can lead to rupture and bleeding. Varices are most commonly associated with liver conditions like cirrhosis, but they can also occur in other areas of the body. They pose serious health risks due to the potential for bleeding, requiring medical monitoring and treatment to reduce complications.
