Vanport City
Vanport City was a temporary housing project built in 1943 near Portland, Oregon, to accommodate workers during World War II, especially those in the shipbuilding industry. It was constructed quickly and consisted of prefabricated units to address the urgent demand for housing. After the war, as the need decreased, many residents left, and the city was largely abandoned. In 1948, a devastating flood destroyed much of Vanport, leading to its formal dissolution. The site now hosts the University of Oregon's Portland campus and serves as a reminder of the area's wartime economic boom and subsequent challenges.
