VanA genotype

The VanA genotype refers to a particular genetic element found in certain bacteria, such as some strains of Enterococcus and Staphylococcus. This gene sequence enables bacteria to produce an enzyme called VanA ligase, which makes the bacteria resistant to vancomycin, a powerful antibiotic often used to treat serious infections. The presence of VanA allows the bacteria to survive even when vancomycin is used, making infections harder to treat. Detection of the VanA genotype helps healthcare providers identify resistant bacteria and guides appropriate treatment strategies.
