V-Effekt (Verfremdungseffekt)
The V-Effekt, or Verfremdungseffekt, is a theatrical technique developed by Bertolt Brecht intended to prevent the audience from becoming too emotionally absorbed in a play. Instead, it encourages viewers to think critically about the issues presented. This is achieved through methods like breaking the fourth wall, changing scenery unexpectedly, or using actors' direct addresses, which remind the audience they are watching a performance. The goal is to foster a sense of distance or alienation, prompting viewers to reflect on social and political themes rather than merely enjoying the story.
