Uzbek SSR
The Uzbek SSR (Uzbek Soviet Socialist Republic) was a part of the Soviet Union from 1924 to 1991. It was a semi-autonomous region governed by communist authorities under Moscow’s control, with its own government and borders. Uzbek SSR included the territory of modern-day Uzbekistan, and its economy was heavily industrialized and collectivized under Soviet policies. It played a significant role in the Soviet Union’s agriculture, especially cotton production. In 1991, with the Soviet Union’s collapse, Uzbekistan declared independence, ending its status as a Soviet republic, and became an independent nation.
