Uterine Artery Embolization
Uterine Artery Embolization (UAE) is a minimally invasive procedure used to treat uterine fibroids or heavy bleeding. A doctor inserts a thin catheter through a small incision in the groin or wrist and guides it to the uterine arteries that supply blood to the fibroids. Tiny particles are then released to block these arteries, reducing blood flow to the fibroids and causing them to shrink. The procedure typically takes about an hour, often with less pain and quicker recovery than traditional surgery. UAE aims to relieve symptoms while preserving the uterus.
