USS Yorktown (CV-5)

USS Yorktown (CV-5) was a United States aircraft carrier that played a pivotal role during World War II. Launched in 1936, it was named after the historic Battle of Yorktown. The Yorktown participated in key battles in the Pacific, including the Battle of Midway, where it helped turn the tide against Japan. Despite suffering damage in battle, the ship was repaired quickly and returned to action. Unfortunately, it was sunk in 1942 during the Battle of Midway. The Yorktown is remembered for its bravery and significant contributions to naval aviation and American military history.
