UNSCOM
UNSCOM (United Nations Special Commission) was a UN-powered organization established in 1991 to monitor and verify Iraq’s compliance with agreements to eliminate its weapons of mass destruction (chemical, biological, and nuclear). Its goal was to ensure Iraq did not rebuild or develop these prohibited weapons after the Gulf War. UNSCOM conducted inspections, collected intelligence, and verified disarmament efforts. It played a key role in international efforts to prevent the proliferation of dangerous weapons, promoting transparency and security. The commission’s work was vital in maintaining regional stability and enforcing international disarmament commitments.
