UNMIK (United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo)
UNMIK, the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo, is an international organization established in 1999 to help restore stability, governance, and peace after conflict in Kosovo. It temporarily took on administrative roles, supported the development of local institutions, and facilitated humanitarian and reconstruction efforts. UNMIKâs goal was to create a functioning, self-governing society while maintaining peace and security. Over time, its direct administrative authority has diminished, with Kosovo largely managing its own affairs, though UNMIK remains involved in areas like judiciary and civil administration until full local sovereignty is achieved.
