United Nations Monitoring, Verification and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC)
The United Nations Monitoring, Verification, and Inspection Commission (UNMOVIC) was a UN body established in 1999 to assess and verify that Iraq was not developing weapons of mass destruction (chemical, biological, or nuclear). It conducted inspections, collected evidence, and provided reports to ensure Iraq complied with disarmament agreements. UNMOVIC aimed to maintain regional stability and prevent the proliferation of dangerous weapons through technical expertise and transparent verification processes. The commission operated until the 2003 Iraq invasion, after which its functions were believed to have been disrupted.
