United Nations Disaster Relief Organization (UNDRO)
The United Nations Disaster Relief Organization (UNDRO) was established in 1971 to coordinate international response efforts during major disasters, such as earthquakes, floods, and humanitarian crises. Its primary role was to provide assistance and support to affected countries by mobilizing resources, expertise, and relief supplies. UNDRO worked to ensure effective collaboration among various UN agencies, governments, and non-governmental organizations to enhance disaster preparedness and response. Though it was dissolved in 1991, its functions were absorbed by the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), which continues to facilitate global disaster response and recovery efforts.
