Unequal Treaties
Unequal treaties are agreements imposed by more powerful countries on weaker ones, often after conflicts or wars. These treaties benefit the stronger nation by forcing the weaker one to give up territory, control over trade, or other rights, usually under unfavorable terms. They are called "unequal" because they are unfair and serve the interests of the dominant country, often undermining the sovereignty of the weaker nation. These treaties typically reflect power imbalances and can lead to long-lasting consequences, including loss of independence and economic disadvantages for the weaker country.
