Ujamaa (Collective Economics)

Ujamaa, meaning "togetherness" in Swahili, is a concept of collective economics that emphasizes community-based cooperation and sharing resources. It encourages people to work together, support local businesses, and manage resources collectively to improve everyone’s well-being. Originating from Tanzania’s leadership under Julius Nyerere, Ujamaa aims to reduce inequality and foster self-reliance by promoting communal ownership and mutual responsibility. Instead of individual profit, the focus is on collective prosperity, social cohesion, and sustainable development within the community.
