U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service
The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) was a federal agency responsible for managing immigration and citizenship processes in the United States. Established in 1933, it oversaw visa applications, the naturalization process for becoming a U.S. citizen, and enforcement of immigration laws. In 2003, the INS was dissolved, and its functions were transferred to the Department of Homeland Security, creating U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP). These agencies now handle immigration services, enforcement, and border protection separately.
