U.S. Bureau of Mines
The U.S. Bureau of Mines was a federal agency established in 1910 to promote and regulate the mining industry in the United States. Its main goals were to enhance safety, improve mining efficiency, and protect the environment. The Bureau conducted research on mining techniques, developed safer practices, and provided data on mineral resources. Although it was dissolved in 1996, its work laid the groundwork for modern mining safety regulations and environmental standards. Today, its functions are primarily handled by other agencies, including the U.S. Geological Survey and the Mine Safety and Health Administration.
