U-matic
U-matic is an early professional video format introduced in the 1970s, used for recording and broadcasting television content. It utilizes a large, cassette-based tape to store high-quality analog video signals. U-matic was popular among TV stations, news organizations, and video producers before digital formats became dominant. Its design allowed for easier handling and playback compared to earlier open-reel systems, making it a significant step in the transition toward modern video technology. While largely obsolete today, U-matic played a key role in the development of video production and archival storage.
