Tyrosine kinase

Tyrosine kinases are enzymes that regulate cell activities by transferring a phosphate group to specific proteins at tyrosine amino acids. This process, called phosphorylation, acts as a molecular switch influencing cell growth, division, and communication. They are essential for normal cellular functions and signaling pathways. However, when tyrosine kinases become abnormal or overactive, they can lead to uncontrolled cell growth, which is associated with cancers. Because of their role in disease, tyrosine kinases are important targets for many cancer therapies.
