Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) is a self-declared state on the northern part of the island of Cyprus, primarily populated by Turkish Cypriots. It was established in 1983, following a Turkish military intervention in 1974 that occurred after a coup aimed at uniting Cyprus with Greece. While Turkey recognizes the TRNC, most countries and international organizations consider it part of the Republic of Cyprus, which is internationally recognized. The division of Cyprus remains a complex issue involving ethnic, political, and historical factors, with ongoing discussions about reunification and peace.
