Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α)
Tumor necrosis factor-alpha (TNF-α) is a protein that plays a key role in your body's immune response. It helps fight infections by promoting inflammation, which is part of how your body heals and defends itself. However, when produced in excess or inappropriately, TNF-α can cause chronic inflammation and contribute to various diseases such as rheumatoid arthritis, inflammatory bowel disease, and certain other autoimmune conditions. Medications that block TNF-α are often used to treat these conditions by reducing inflammation and alleviating symptoms.
