Tuberculosis vaccine candidates
Tuberculosis (TB) vaccine candidates are experimental vaccines designed to prevent the bacterial infection that primarily affects the lungs but can impact other body parts. The most widely known is the Bacillus Calmette-Guérin (BCG) vaccine, used since the 1920s but with limited effectiveness in adults. New candidates are being developed to provide better protection, especially in high-risk populations. These include vaccines that aim to enhance the immune response or target new aspects of the TB bacteria. Ongoing research is critical to find effective solutions, as TB remains a significant global health challenge.
